The author of "Ulong Police Station" won the Purple Ribbon Medal for Great Contribution to Comic Culture

On November 3, the "Medal with Purple Ribbon", an award for great contribution to the cultural field selected and awarded by the Japanese government, was announced. Akimoto Osamu, a Japanese manga artist famous for "Uron Police Station", won the Medal with Purple Ribbon in recognition of his contribution to manga culture.

Akimoto Osamu (December 11, 1952 -), Japanese manga artist. Born in Katsushika, Tokyo. He worked as an animation producer at Tatsunoko Studio and later became a manga artist. In 1976, he began to serialize "This is Katsushika-ku Kameari Park-mae Police Station" (also translated as "Ulong Police Station") in the 29th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. The work features a minor character, the policeman "Ryotsu Kankichi", and the content covers all aspects of social life, with readers of all ages.

The Order of the Purple Ribbon is one of the medals awarded by the Japanese government. It is awarded to people who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of academia, art, and sports.
