At the press conference of "The New King of Comedy", Stephen Chow jokingly called Wang Baoqiang a "superstar in supporting roles"

A press conference for Stephen Chow's new film "The New King of Comedy" was held in Beijing today. At the conference, Stephen Chow explained why he chose Wang Baoqiang.

Stephen Chow explained: "This is a story about a minor actor, which is in the same direction as my previous film The King of Comedy. So I wanted to find a big star who has experience as a minor actor. So it can only be Mr. Wang (Baoqiang). I can't think of anyone else except Mr. Wang, who is both a superstar and a minor actor." Wang Baoqiang: "So I am a minor actor superstar."

Baoqiang said at the scene that his first reaction when he received the invitation from Stephen Chow was "This day has finally come." He said that he had watched the movie "The King of Comedy" in 2000 when he was still a minor actor, and it was this movie that inspired him.

Wang Baoqiang also praised Stephen Chow's "self-cultivation as a director". "He is personally involved in the creation. Many of his ideas are definitely unexpected and not common, but they have been carefully considered. He is also personally involved in communicating with various departments on site and is fully committed to the creation."

In addition, Stephen Chow specifically denied at the press conference that Wang Baoqiang was "Yin Tianchou". Stephen Chow lamented that the situation has changed a lot in the past 20 years, and hoped that this movie could really bring encouragement and hope to everyone.

"The New King of Comedy" is directed by Stephen Chow and co-starred by Wang Baoqiang, E Jingwen, Jing Yangru, Zhang Quandan, Zhang Qi, Yuan Xingzhe, Huang Xiaopeng, Cai Zherui and Miao Yilun. The film will be released on the first day of the Lunar New Year and is only 90 minutes long.
