Director of Aquaman not nominated for Oscar for Visual Effects: What a shame

Aquaman is one of the biggest successes of the DC movie universe in recent years, and its global box office is expected to surpass Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice this weekend. Although it has achieved great success in both word-of-mouth and box office, director James Wan is still dissatisfied because the film was not nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

There are 10 nominated films for this year's Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, three of which are from the Marvel Universe series, but unfortunately, Aquaman is not included. In response, James Wan first praised special effects supervisor Kelvin McIlwain on Facebook, and then expressed his dissatisfaction with not being nominated.

"You and your department are the unsung heroes of this film. Your fellow VFX professionals in the Academy do not recognize our/your contributions to this film and the film industry as a whole. What a fucking shame."

In response, Mcllwain, the special effects supervisor, said: "I agree with you. I am surprised that we were not selected in the top ten nominated films. In my opinion, there are shortcomings in the selection process and it is too easy to be influenced by outside factors."

The 10 films nominated for this year's Oscar for Best Visual Effects are:

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Avengers: Infinity War

Black Panther

Christopher Robin

First Man

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Mary Poppins Returns

Ready Player One

Solo

Although "Aquaman" is the first DC movie after the failure of "Justice League" in 2017, there will be many DC movies waiting to be released later. The first is "Shazam" in April this year, and then the "Joker" solo movie in October. Later, there is "Wonder Woman 1984" scheduled for 2020 and the "Suicide Squad" reboot movie written by James Gunn, which has not yet been scheduled.
