New Blair Witch movie announced to reboot the series

The classic pseudo-video horror series "Blair Witch" is about to be rebooted, which will be produced by horror film production company Blumhouse boss and producer Jason Blum, and will cooperate with Lionsgate.

The reboot was announced at the recent CinemaCon in Las Vegas, USA. As of now, no official plot details have been released. This is the first of a multi-film collaboration between Blumhouse and Lionsgate, in which the studio will try to interpret classic horror works in its own way. Other works in the collaboration have not yet been announced.

Jason Blum will serve as producer on the new film alongside Roy Lee, producer of the 2016 reboot of Blair Witch. Blum said: "I'm so grateful to (original producer) Adam Fogelson and the team at Lionsgate for allowing us to play in their sandbox. I'm a huge fan of The Blair Witch Project, which brought the idea of video horror to a mainstream audience and became a true cultural phenomenon. I think without Blair Witch there would be no Paranormal Activity, so I feel like this is a really special opportunity and I'm excited to see where it goes."

The original Blair Witch Project film was made on a budget of just $35,000 and went on to gross $248 million, opening the floodgates for a wave of pseudo-video horror movies. In 2019, Bloober Team released a video game that changed that.
