IGN: Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House is a great horror series that's also a very engaging family drama that effectively shows how ghosts can be just as scary as things that go bump in the night. Based on Shirley Jackson's 1959 gothic horror novel, this adaptation avoids gore and violence in favor of something that might be more existential, but still scary. Under the careful guidance of series creator and director Mike Flanagan, The Haunting of Hill House deftly balances the scare-fest between the real world and the supernatural, and deftly presents a complex theme about the conspiracy between the house and all the children involved in the incident that went down as adults.
