The author of the American comic book "Spawn": The success or failure of Hollywood adaptations will depend on this year

Todd McFarlane, the creator of the American superhero comic "Spawn", promised that if Hollywood cannot advance the production of a film adaptation in 2024, he will have to "find a way outside" Hollywood.

Spawn is a comic book first published in 1992. It does not belong to the familiar DC and Marvel Universe, but to Image Comics. The hero was originally a Marine. After being murdered and sent to hell, he gained the power and immortality given by the devil, as well as the mission to punish the evildoers in the world. The animated series adapted from the comic book was broadcast on HBO from 1997 to 1999.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Todd McFarlane, president of Image Comics, said he would begin trying to get major Hollywood studios to buy the rights to the project by the end of the year, and then begin exploring other options for production and distribution.

"One way or another, 2024 is going to be the year that makes or breaks me, right? Either I give Hollywood the best chance to make it happen, or if not, I've got more outside investors waiting for me," he said.

"So I want to see if I can get the right deal within the norms of the Hollywood structure. If not, there have actually been many examples in the last year of people not going through the normal channels and having success. There have also been people who have made a movie and then found a distribution company. I can do that right away."

He also praised Jason Blum, president of Blumhouse, the studio behind the hugely successful Five Nights at Freddy's adaptation, calling him "one of the best at getting things done".
