It has been 20 years since Quentin, the master of violent aesthetics, shot "Kill Bill 1". The film was originally released in October 2003. To this day, it is still regarded as Quentin's best film, just like "Pulp Fiction". Uma Thurman plays the bride, who looks similar to Bruce Lee Kill Bill 1 is a tribute to old-school kung fu movies that takes violence to the extreme. On the 20th anniversary of the film's release, some interesting behind-the-scenes stories of Kill Bill 1 were also shared. According to foreign media reports, Quentin used 450 gallons of fake blood, equivalent to 1,705 kilograms of fake blood, to shoot Kill Bill 1. Tarantino wanted Kill Bill 1 to live up to his tradition of bloody stories, which meant a lot of practical effects. Tarantino told Time magazine on the set of Kill Bill in 2002 that he vowed to shoot it "the Chinese way" without computer effects. He said: "That stuff looks good, but it looks like it was made by a computer. I'd rather have it look good and look like cool stuff from the 70s." Those practical effects included injecting fake blood into condoms, and according to makeup artist Christopher Allen Nelson, a total of 450 gallons of the red stuff were used. Tarantino marked 100 gallons for the "House of Blue Leaves" scene, saying, "I'm very picky about blood, so we mix it up for different scenes. I don't want horror movie blood, okay? I want samurai blood." The usually rigorous director reiterated: "You can't pour syrup on a sword and make it look beautiful. You have to have this special bloody taste that you only see in samurai movies." Hard work pays off, "Kill Bill 1" was nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 57th British Academy Film Awards. |
