Writers strike halts production on Batman spinoff The Penguin

The ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has affected the production of many TV series and movies. Currently, the production of the spin-off of the movie Batman, The Penguin, has also been suspended.

According to DEADLINE , the series was originally scheduled to start filming in Westchester, New York, USA on Tuesday, but striking members of the WGA East and the local guild refused to pass through the barriers set up by the strike team.

The Penguin is set to explore the character's criminal path to power in Gotham City's underworld. Actor Colin Farrell will reprise his role from the Matt Reeves-directed film. Cristin Milioti will play Sofia Falcone, the daughter of crime lord Falcone.

Craig Zobel, who directed "East Side Nightmares," will direct this eight-episode series. Lauren Lefranc, the screenwriter of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", will write the script. Farrell himself will also serve as executive producer with film director Reeves.

There is currently no scheduled air date for The Penguin. Due to the writers' strike, it may be postponed indefinitely.
