"Red River" reverses box office decline and temporarily tops the Spring Festival box office! Zhang Yimou breaks the record

As of 0:10 a.m. on January 25, the total box office (including pre-sales) of the 2023 Spring Festival (January 21 to January 27) exceeded 4 billion yuan.

"Man Jiang Hong", "The Wandering Earth 2" and "Boonie Bears: Big Big Wolf" ranked the top three in the Spring Festival box office, and the first two films both exceeded 1.3 billion yuan.

Among them, the box office of "Man Jiang Hong" on January 24 was 435 million yuan, setting a new high after its release, and staged a "reverse decline" drama. With a total box office of 1.4 billion yuan in three days of release, it temporarily ranks first in this year's Spring Festival box office.

The movie "Red River" also became the highest-grossing film released in mainland China by 72-year-old director Zhang Yimou. The previous winner was the movie "On the Cliff" released in April 2021 (box office of 1.191 billion yuan).

Zhang Yimou said that "Red River" is a suspense drama with a comedic touch. Through the stories of several small characters, it tells the stories of them sacrificing their lives for justice, eradicating evil and never giving up. After the fast-paced suspense thriller reversal, it romantically expresses the Chinese people's feelings for their country and family.

Zhang Yimou also said that the quality of a film depends first on the script and the actors. "The only way to make a good film is to find ways to make it good. There is no other shortcut."

The movie "Man Jiang Hong" brings together well-known actors such as Shen Teng, Yi Yang Qianxi, Zhang Yi, Lei Jiayin, Yue Yunpeng, etc., which can be called a "dream lineup".
