Deadpool and Wolverine expected to break R-rated box office record in opening weekend

Deadpool and Wolverine is expected to have a very strong start when it hits theaters on July 26. According to DEADLINE, multiple box office tracking services have released forecasts that the film is expected to gross between $160 million and $165 million domestically in its opening weekend in the United States.

This would make it the best-performing film released in the US so far in 2024 and would set a new opening weekend record for an adult (R) rated film in film history. The original 2016 Deadpool film currently holds the record for the highest opening weekend for an R rated film in the US, with $132.4 million.

Box office forecasts are unreliable and highly variable, and they are known to change, especially when a film is still far away from release. For example, Quorum previously predicted that Deadpool vs. Wolverine would open at $200 million in the US.

According to DEADLINE, pre-sales for Deadpool vs. Wolverine currently stand at $19 million. Tickets went on sale in May and quickly broke sales records.
