Dune 3 will start shooting this summer, Dune 2 box office exceeds $700 million

Foreign media Deadline quoted multiple sources as saying that "Dune 3" will start shooting this summer.

Director Denis Villeneuve and his team are currently in the pre-production stage and have been preparing for some time, with the goal of being ready for filming at the beginning of summer. Deadline mentioned that it might not be June because it is still a bit early.

Since its release last year, "Dune 2" has grossed over $700 million worldwide, and both "Dune" and "Dune 2" have been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.

In the third film, Denis Villeneuve will adapt Frank Herbert's sequel novel Dune Messiah to complete the story of Paul Atreides and thus complete the trilogy.

In the novels, Paul "Moadiba" Atreides has been ruling as Emperor for 12 years. He has accepted the role of savior of the Furmins and launched a holy war to conquer most of the known universe, but is powerless to stop the deadly rampages of the religion he created. The title of the third film has yet to be determined.

Starting filming in the middle to late summer of this year will probably give Zendaya some free time, as she has a tight schedule of film and television appearances, including Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey", the third season of "Euphoria", and Marvel's "Spider-Man 4".

There's no word on filming locations yet, but both previous films shot extensively at Origo Studios, Hungary, Jordan, and Abu Dhabi.
