One of Marvel's most anticipated Phase 4 films, Doctor Strange 2: Into the Multiverse of Madness, has seen personnel changes. Scott Derrickson, the director of Doctor Strange 1, has officially announced his departure due to "creative differences." Marvel released a statement through Variety saying: "Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson parted ways amicably during the filming of Doctor Strange 2. We remain grateful for Scott's contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe." Marvel is looking for a new director. According to reports, the director's resignation did not affect the filming schedule of the film, which is still scheduled to start in May. Scott also confirmed the news on Twitter and mentioned that this was caused by differences in creative direction. "Due to creative differences, Marvel and I have reached an amicable separation and will no longer be directing Doctor Strange 2. I am grateful for our collaboration and will remain in touch as an executive producer." Rumor has it that Scott wanted to continue to explore the dark and fearful side of Doctor Strange, but it was not in line with Marvel's current purpose, so they parted ways. He is not the first director to break up with Marvel. The original director of Ant-Man was Edgar Wright, and the director of Thor 2 was once Patty Jenkins. James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, also experienced the storm of termination and re-hiring. |
