Screen Actors Guild, studios reach tentative deal to end strike

SAG-AFTRA, the actors' union, is one step closer to ending its four-month strike after ratifying a tentative three-year contract agreement with major movie studios.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the union voted to approve the agreement on November 8, 2023, local time. This means that the strike will end at 12:01 a.m. on November 9, party time. Then on November 10, local time, the deal will be submitted to the union's national committee for approval.

"In a unanimous vote this afternoon, the SAG-AFTRA Television/Theatre Committee approved a tentative agreement with the AMPTP (the bargaining group representing the studios), ending the 118-day strike. The strike ended at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, November 9," the union said in a statement released.

It was previously reported that negotiations between the two sides had been suspended for several weeks. The agreement was reached before 5 pm local time. This is also the deadline given to the union by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). At present, there are few details about the agreement, but The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that more details will be made public in the days before the union vote.
