The head of the famous Japanese pirated anime site ZzzFun and its APP's Chinese operations was arrested

Today, March 6, multiple Japanese media outlets reported that the head of China operations for the famous pirated anime site ZzzFun and the APP of the same name had been arrested by Chinese police in February. According to news on Tieba, ZzzFun had ceased operations at the end of last year.

According to a statement released today by the Japan Creative Content Overseas Distribution Agency (CODA), the suspect currently lives in Liaoning Province. According to a police search of the suspect's home on October 15, 2024, the suspect had developed and operated the famous pirated anime site ZzzFun and the APP of the same name without the permission of the Japanese copyright owner since 2022. The website is operated in Japan and focuses on Japanese anime and film and television, but is only available to Chinese users.

According to police investigation, the suspect had made illegal profits of about 330,000 yuan by the time the case was discovered. After being exposed, the Japan Creative Distribution Agency (CODA) cooperated with the Chinese police to shut down the illegal websites and apps.
